It was our first exciting day at Shinjo East High School filled
an abundance of memorable activities and experiences. We participated in
various lessons including Calligraphy, Maths, English, Geography. In Home
Economics class, students enjoyed making delicious okonomiyaki, a savoury Japanese cabbage pancake. The students of
Shinjo performed a traditional musical and dance performance. During the afternoon,
we watched a Judo demonstration and learnt some basic manoeuvres. After school,
we attended a Kimono and Yukata wearing experience where we all enjoyed
dressing in traditional Japanese attire.
Together with the students of Shinjo’s International Relations Committee, today we took a bus trip to the seaside town of Shonai located on the west coast of Japan. Here we visited a candle making store where we hand-painted our own candle. We then headed to the “Kamo Aquarium” located on Shonai Beach facing the Sea of Japan. This extraordinary aquarium is world famous for having the largest number of jellyfish exhibits. On return to Shinjo, we participated in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
